Pathology and Lab

Outpatient Services
Clinical Laboratory Services for outpatients are done in Laboratory Services in the Outpatient Care Building. The Outpatient Building has convenient access from the parking garage at the rear of the St. Mary Medical Center Campus. Many of the tests do not require a scheduled appointment, but patients must bring a physician's note or script (this is mandatory) with them at time of testing. Lab blood collection is available
     Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 pm and
     Saturday 7 am to noon

 Information on lab expansion

The lab at St. Mary handles testing for outpatient and inpatient services

The Clinical Laboratory encompasses the departments of Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank. Many of the Hematology and Chemistry results are completed by the end of that same day, but some are not resulted for several days. Most cultures take at least two full days before results are completed.

When lab results are complete, a copy is mailed to the ordering physician. Patients are to call their physician for the results. Results cannot be given to patients via the telephone, fax, mail.

For Anatomical Pathology, probably the most frequent question/call is about how to get patient slides for review by another facility. Call us at 215-710-2162 at least 24 hours (Mon-Fri) in advance of pickup. We will need to know to whom the slides are being sent (the physician and facility name). The slides may be picked up by the patient or we can  mail them via certified mail.

Interesting facts:
The Clinical Laboratory completes over two million tests per year.
Our Pathologists complete more than 10,000 Anatomical Pathology cases, and more than 1,200 Cytology cases per year.
